The exercises that the patient does by himself are an inseparable part of the healing process of locomotor dysfuntions. The recommended exercises are to be done in between therapeutic sessions and after finishing the treatment cycle. Individual participation of the patient in the healing process and the conscious prevention of overstrains allows to break the mechanism that sustains the illness.
The goal of autotherapy is to reach a balance in all areas of personality, and in between these areas. The patient achieves this through:
Recognising personal mechanisms of overstrains, including the patterns of experiencing stress, which distort locomotor funcitons – Ergonomy, Psychoeducation. Learning exericises for individual therapy of locomotor dysfunctions – active mobilisations, techniques of muscle energy, relaxation techniques, and others. Eutony – obtaining optimal muscle tension during physical activity and rest. Learning how to react to stress in a more ‘physiological’ way.
Autotherapy is taught in groups or individually, and a single session takes 45 minutes. During classes, the patient learns how about the process of overstraining works, and what influence the psychic sphere and the closest environment (family, workplace) has on the formation of locomotor.
Psychoeducation
Authors state that 80% of backbone and joint problems are a consequence of overstrains of the psychic sphere. Psychoeducation helps to recognize and correct the overstraining patterns of reacting to stress – patterns of reacting mentally, emotionally, sentimentally and by locomotor structures. It also helps to recognize and correct distorted patterns of communication with friends and family, and between the conscience and subconscience of the patient. The recognition of the dependency between the psychic sphere and locomotor organs, and the conscious use of these to initiate the healing process, is the condition for recovery.
